Summary: ABSTRACT An interactive Computer based Design for Manufacturing System for Machined components is developed. The system operates on an engineering graphics software (AutoCAD20OO) and is constructed to provide the Design Engineer with immediate feedback and information about the manufacturability of the features at the design stage. The main components of the system include feature assessment module, feature creation module and database management module. The system uses a method for assessing the technical feasibility and producibilty of non-rotational machined parts based on part feature concept. The evaluation is made against a set of criteria including machine-tool limitation, process capability and DFM recommendations.
