Subject(s): Online resources: In: International Journal of Heat and Mass TransferSummary: A two-dimensional Galerkin formulation of the three-dimensional Oberbeck-Boussinesq equations is used to determine the onset of convection in an infinite rigid horizontal channel uniformly heated from below. Earlier results (Chana and Daniels, J. Fluid Mech. 199,257–279 (1989)) are extended to higher levels of truncation and to include modes of convection not previously examined.
